Scavenger Hunt Sunday 2-24-13

Yes, I am aware it is Monday.  I wasn't feeling well yesterday and never got on the computer.  I almost just skipped this week, but I had most of the photos (I took one today), so I figured I should just do it!  Here we go:

Getting Ready
This was yesterday morning.  Sometimes getting ready involves Nick being strapped to me...

Playtime
What a nice big sister, accessorizing her little brother.  :)

Rub a dub
Guess who loves bathtime?  This guy!

Sweet Dreams
Really, I should have had more options for this one, but we will have to settle for an uber close up this time.

Time to Eat
Need I say more?

New Design Team!!

Today I get to share some exiting news: I've been asked to join the Scrapping Everyday Miracles design team!! SEM is a challenge blog that focuses on seeing God and his works in our everyday lives and scrapbooking about it. I am so excited to be a part of this team and for the inspiration to scrap more about my faith.  Today is my first reveal with them and it is a sketch by Tracey Gregory.
I decided to make a prayer layout for Addy because I haven't made one for her yet and the sketch was for one photo.

I used some more of my glitter. I found that the tinsel glitter doesn't work very well for letters, but works great for solid shapes. I used it on the word ”pray” (after spreading glossy accents over it), but I had to go back and trim the glitter so the word was readable.
For my chipboard heart, I inked the plain chipboard with picked raspberry distress ink, covered the to with a thick layer of glossy accents, and sprinkled glitter on it.

I played around a bit with ink on my canvas pieces. I started by inking them with forest moss distress ink. Then I splattered some slate Glimmer Mist, followed by a light mist of sugar maple Glimmer Mist, and finally a heavy coating of pearl Glimmer Mist to help it all blend.

Bee Happy

I put together this card the other day for this month's ”I Feel the Love” project. (Click on the link to read more about it.) I used this week's Unscripted Sketch as inspiration.

This week's ”Crafting With Cutters” challenge is card outreach, so I used several cuts from the ”Sentimentals” cartridge. For color inspiration, I did the card color challenge that was party of the ” Love is in the Air” crop at My Scraps and More.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 2-17-13

It's Sunday again which means it is time for another Scavenger Hunt!  I ended up staging a few of these this morning, not because they were difficult, just because I hadn't gotten the shots yet.

Candy
With Valentine's Day just a few days ago, we have lots of candy around.  Here's Addy with a Sweet Tart heart.

Pink or Red
I do most of the cooking around here, but Rick always seems to do the cooking when we have pancakes.  This was last Sunday when he decided to make pink heart pancakes for lunch.

Love
These two have a bit of a love/hate relationship, I think because they are alike in a lot of ways.  Just moments before a took this photo, Will had his arms around Addy's waist.  It was so sweet, but I was a little slow with the camera.  :/

Kisses
Everyone loves to give Nick kisses, here's one of Will giving him a kiss.  Not sure Nick is loving it... :)

Smile
Ellie "lost" one of her top teeth last weekend, her third over all.  (I say "lost" because Rick pulled it.  There was crying, but she opened her mouth willingly...)  We are enjoying her holey smile!

Addy's First Haircut

I have a new layout to share.  I did this one for a couple of different challenges and I got to play with some new stuff I the process. :-)

My Scraps and More is hosting a” Love is in the Air” crop on their forum. All of the challenges revolve around the theme of Valentine's day, but you don't have to be scrapping Valentine's Day. I did this layout for the ”Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend” challenge which was to use two different types of ” bling” on a layout.

I used some clear ” bling on a roll” from Michaels and colored them using yellow and gold alcohol ink. The frame was cut using my Cricut and the ”Stretch Your Imagination” cartridge.  I used the card frame function. To contain the hair clippings, I used a rectangular piece of bubble packaging that I glued to the page.

I also did this for the ”All Things Being Equal” challenge at Back Porch Memories. That challenge was to use a square as the main design element on the page. My main photo is a square. I used some DIY Thickers and glitter for the word "Addy's" in the title. I poured the glitter on when they were already on my page so some got stuck to the adhesive around my die cut "Haircut. I decided to leave it as it made a nice shadow effect on the letters.
Here are the two major embellishment clusters on the page:

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you are all having a great day!  I have some Valentines to share today!  The first I made for my husband using Cardabilities sketch #68 and the "Be My Valentine" challenge at My Scraps and More.

I used glossy cardstock and alcohol inks on the large heart.  I felt that the green background piece was a little small so I decided to "mat" that with some stamping on the base.  To create the white border, I used painter's tape and taped around the edges before stamping.  The sentiments and heart tag were cut using my Cricut.

Here's a close up of the alcohol ink on the heart.  I used red ink, silver and pearl mixatives and then dropped blending solution on it.

I also made cards for my little Valentines.  I made two like this for my two little boys.  For the doily heart, I rubbed some Distress Ink on a plastic bag and sprayed it with turquoise Perfect Pearls mist.  Then I rubbed the doily, face down, on the bag to pick up the color.  This is the one I did first, the second one has a softer color to it because there was less ink.

And here is the one for the girls.  I used the same technique as above to color this one.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 2-10-13

We've been getting out of the house a bit more, this week we even made it to the zoo one morning! We are also getting ready for Valentine's Day so I have a couple of photos of those preparations.

The Small Things
Here is little Nick. This was taken on Thursday, the day he turned one month old! It is crazy to think it has already been a month, but at the same time, life without him seems so long ago.

Illustration
One of the places we went this week was to JoAnn's, and while we were there the kids picked out masks to paint. Well, actually Addy and Will did, but Ellie was so bummed that she didn't get one that the next day when I was at Michael's, I picked one up for her. Then Addy was sad that she didn't have a princess one. *sigh*

Work of Art
There are lots of works of art made around here, but this is one the kids made when they were outside earlier this week.  (And yes, Will is eating snow.)

Valentines
Ellie was so excited when she found out she would be passing Valentines out to her classmates.  She asked several times yesterday when she would be able to go buy them.  As soon as she got them home, she had to fill them out and put them together!

Window Beauty
We made these hearts a week or two ago using a salad spinner (I had Rick get one from a thrift store and that one is just for artwork now).  I got the idea here.

Ellie's Build A Bear

I have a new layout to share today.  I've been meaning to do this page for some time and all of the pieces finally came together.  I used this month's sketch at Sketches with a Twist.  The twist was to use texture paste on your layout.  I haven't done a lot with my texture paste, so this was a great opportunity to get it out again.

I mixed in some pink shimmery powder to give the white paste some color.  I used my star mask and spread the paste over some of the openings to make the stars on this layout.  This also fit the criteria for the Jan/Feb Issue Challenge #5 at Club CK which was to make a layout using phone or social media technology.  When we went to Build a Bear that day, we had forgotten to bring the camera.  I was so bummed!  I ended up taking photos with my phone, which didn't turn out great, but they are something.  I used three of the smallest photos and printed them small for my layout.

Materials
Cardstock- Bazzill, American Crafts
Patterned Paper, Rubons, Sticker, and Flair- American Crafts
Button- Pink Paislee
Pens- American Crafts, Zig
Texture Paste- Golden
Mask- Crafter's Workshop
Spray Ink- Tattered Angels
Shimmer Powder- Jacquard Products
Ink- Ranger
Brad- Doodlebug

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 2-3-13

I'm doing a quick post with my photos for the scavenger hunt this week so I can do a little scrapbooking before the kids wake up from their naps!

 Hidden
As in hidden eyes- what a goof! :)

Plain
Plain sweater, plain cute...

Left
Notice what his left hand is doing... I spent the entire time he was painting this day following him back and forth between the kitchen and bathroom cleaning up messes!

Fast
I'm cheating with this one, but as soon as I read this prompt I thought of this photo, taken by my husband, a few weeks ago. However, since one of my goals in doing the scavenger hunt is to share photos of the kids, I decided to just go with it! This is one of the costumes he got for Christmas so he would have some dress up clothes besides fairy wings and princess dresses. :)

Peace
 Sleeping baby anyone?

February Calendar Page and Announcement!

Today I have my February calendar/ Project 12 page to share.  I used sketch #248 from Nuts About Sketches.  This sketch had lots of spots for photos.  We didn't have many special events last February, so I ended up using a lot of "everyday" photos, which turned out okay, and it means that I don't have anything that more I need to scrapbook for this month!

This layout also works for a couple of challenges.  The first is the January/February Issue Challenge #2 at Club CK, which was to use photo strips.  The second is the 1/29/13 Stash Challenge at My Scraps and More.  That challenge was to use at least 5 different manufacturers on a layout.  I used quite a bit of K and Company on this layout, but there are also products from 13 other manufacturers on this page!  (I realized after I took the photo of the layout that these photos were from February 2012, so that has been fixed...)

I played a bit with clustering on this page.  For this cluster I used some die cuts, a sticker, a brad and some felt and tried to vary the depth of the embellishments for interest.

More felt and die cuts in this one.  I also used some rub ons.  If you look closely, you can see some glitter peeking out from underneath the large white felt heart (a post Christmas clearance find at Target last year).  I used some adhesive rub ons and glitter to add some interest behind the heart.

For this cluster I layered some Grungeboard that I painted and inked with the felt arrow.

I also wanted to mention that I have made the Nuts About Sketches Design Team for March-August!  It is no secret that I love Shawn's sketches and I am excited to be sharing my takes on them with a wider audience again!  You can check out the announcement here.
