Scavenger Hunt Sunday 1-27-13

When I saw this week's scavenger hunt prompts, I didn't think they would be that hard. Boy was I wrong! Maybe it was because I procrastinated, maybe the prompts were hard, but I struggled with several of these! Here are my interpretations for the week:

Lace
This is the prompt I struggled with the most. We don't have much for lace around the house and I really wasn't sure what I was going to do for this one until I saw the Weedy Sea Dragons at the zoo today. I love the delicate, lacy look of these animals, they are so beautiful!

Bling
With two little girls around here, we have plenty of sparkle. Here is Ellie in an outfit she received for her birthday. (Yes, that shirt sheds a ridiculous amount of glitter every time I wash it!)

Wood
I had some ideas for this one and had actually taken a different photo for this one. However, as I was going through my photos from today, I loved this photo and realized that with the trees and paneled wall, this totally works!

Fuzzy
Dis is my wittle baby with his fuzzy wuzzy head after a bath... Okay, seriously, I LOVE how fuzzy his hair gets when I dry it. Well really, I love everything about him!

Fabric
Another bath photo, this time pre-bath lying on a soft towel.

Christmas Card 2010

I have another layout to share today! I have several extra Christmas cards from past years, and I have always had the intention of scrapping them, I finally got one of them done!

I used this week's sketch at Creative Scrappers as a starting point to display our card from 2010.

This page came together quite quickly.  I had the idea of using a few sheets from a Bo Bunny Noteworthy pad as mats for my card.  I pulled a couple other papers in blues for extra layers.  I also had a couple of different packs of snowflake rub ons that matched.  For the half circle pieces I did a little heat embossing with some snowflake stamps.

I also did this layout for the One Little Word Crop going on at My Scraps and More.  The challenge for this one was to use a photo of something that brings you "peace."  My family together for Christmas brings a lot of peace and makes me so happy. This layout also works for the layering challenge at Back Porch Memories, which is to have at least 3 layers.

Happy Birthday 2 U

I have a new layout to share today! It is a two-pager that I did for a few challenges.  I started with this sketch from Sketches In Thyme:

My Scraps and More is hosting a One Little Word crop with challenges inspired by single words.  I decided to take on the {happy} challenge, which was to use the word "happy" in the title of the page and use something on the page that makes you happy.  I've had these photos of Addy's second birthday sitting around for a while and I thought this was the perfect chance to scrap them.

Finally, the current "workout" at ScrapFit is to use stars on a layout. I cut my stars using Sure Cuts A Lot and cut each one "normal" in white and "shadow" in black.  I popped them up with foam tape and then drew around them with glue and sprinkled pink American Crafts Spark glitter over the glue.  To help prevent it from shedding I went over the glitter with some Glossy Accents.

Because the space between my photos was so wide, I machine stitched lines through them the add interest.  I used some OLD papers on this one, but that's what worked with these photos.  I had a lot of fun digging through my stash and finding items that worked for the color scheme I was going for.

Materials:
Cardstock- The Paper Company, American Crafts
Patterned Paper- Robin's Nest, Die Cuts With a View
Stickers- Creative Imaginations, Michaels
Gromlet- We R Memory Keepers
Gems- Prima, Hero Arts, Recollections
Pen- Sharpie
Thread- Coats and  Clark
Chipboard- Pink Paislee
Glitter- American Crafts

Baptism card

Our friends had their baby baptized the past weekend and we had the honor of being there to witness it.

I made this card for them using this week's Unscripted Sketch.  This week was a "piggyback challenge" which was to use stickers as well as the sketch.  I used a couple of silver photo corner stickers on either end of the sentiment.  I also did the 1/10/13 Scrap {play} challenge at My Scraps and More which was to use two colors; I used blue and cream.

I used all papers from my scrap file for this. I did some embossing and lots of distressing on this one. The stamps are from a great set I found a while back by Inkadinkadoo.

Get Well card

I made this card the other day for my grandma who had hip replacement surgery a week and a half ago

The 1/6/13 card challenge at My Scraps and More is to make an easel card.  I have never made one before,  but decided to try my hand at it.  It was so easy!!  If you want to see the tutorial, click the link above.  I really like how it gives the card a little different look, but doesn't take any extra effort.

I used a card sketch by Pamela Young and my scraps from my ”Family of 6” layout.

For the sentiment on the inside, I used my Cricut and the ” Tags, Bags, Boxes and More” cartridge.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 1-20-13

While we got out of the house a few times, we're still spending a lot of time at home, so all of my photos are from around the house this week. Here are my interpretations:

 Basket
I took some newborn photos of Nick this week.  I used a basket that we store blankets in for most of them. A lot of the photos you can't see the basket, but this one you can.  When Addy saw this one as we were looking through them the other night, she asked, "Why did you put Nick in the basket?!"  :)

Park
It was fairly warm out on Friday, so I sent the big kids out to play in the yard.  Ellie (and Addy) "parked" themselves on the snow and started filling buckets.  They were complaining of cold butts when they came in!

Auto
Friday was my first day on my own with all four kids.  While Ellie was at school in the morning, I set up this tub of soapy water for Addy and Will to play in with some bottles and animals.  I took this one in "Auto." :)

Recycle
Nick is the fourth child, so pretty much everything he wears and uses has been worn or used by at least one other person.  We received the hat on his head and the blue blanket when Ellie was born and the white blanket when Addy was born.

People Watching
Nick has started to be a little more alert for longer periods of time.  Here he is watching his brother and sister playing in the water.  He's already shown he is strong, holding up his head for 30 seconds to a minute at a time, so I think he is going to be joining in on the fun sooner rather than later!

Family of 6

Hello!  It has taken a couple of days, but I have completed a layout!  I did this one for this month's challenge at Once Upon A... Sketch.  I have been following this challenge blog for a while, but this is the first time I've played along.  Each month they have a sketch and a journaling prompt.  The focus is on documenting your stories on your scrapbook pages.  This month's prompt was "The start of something new," and below is the sketch.

I decided to make a page for my "Book of Me" about our transition to a family of 6.  My "Book of Me" is 8x8, so I had the challenge of working in this less familiar format.  The papers I used are old Bo Bunny from a pad I got at Scrapfest several years ago.

Because of the smaller format, I decided to do my journaling on a hidden tag.  It reads:
Wow! 4 kids! As we begin this new chapter of our family, I am a bit nervous about being a good mom to all of you.  I know one of the most important things I can do is ask God for grace.  I love you all very much!

I bought some DIY Thickers a week or so ago to use with my collection of glitter, and that's what I used for the 6 in my title.  I used some coarse glitter first, and then filled in the gaps with some blue extra fine glitter.  The current weekly challenge at Club CK is to use multiple fonts for your title, which is a technique I enjoy and one I used here.  I had a lot of fun playing with different inks on the flowers and canvas accents.  I used some spray inks on the flowers and used distress inks on the canvas vines.

Thanks for stopping by!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 1-13-13

Hi all! I have decided to get back on the Scavenger Hunt Sunday wagon since, as I shared yesterday, we have a new baby, and we have several family members who live far away and this is the best reminder for me to take and share photos! I have also not been very inspired to take photos lately, so this will also get me back into doing that. I ended up "cheating" a bit this week, but I wanted to get these posted so here are my interpretations for this week:

Outside
I haven't been outside much at all this week, but here is Nick all bundled up in his seat ready to go outside for the first time to make the trip home from the hospital.

Backside
Here is one of the photos I cheated on. Yes, that is me, so that means I didn't actually take that one myself, my husband did. I really like this photo of Nick and me, taken minutes after he was born, and the waves of matted hair on the back of his just-born head.

Little Things
Nick's sweet little feet :)

A Cup Of...
Coffee!  Throughout this pregnancy I became a major coffee drinker, needing a little "pick-me-up" nearly every day.  (Don't worry, I only had one cup per day which is permitted. :))  My parents got me a coffee maker for Christmas, so I think this is a habit that will carry on!

Reflect
This photo is not from this week (obviously), but it is the last photo we took of our 3 kids before there was 4.  Having a new baby has made me think back to when we brought Will home 2 1/2 years ago and how different it is this time because both girls are older than what Ellie was at that time which means they are more able to help out.  All three kids have been pretty eager to help so far, which has been great, but I know it won't always be that way!

Thanks for stopping by and you can click below to see how others interpreted this week's prompts.

Mojo Monday #275- Birthday Card

I have not posted anything this week because I had a baby!  Nicholas John was born on Monday weighing 8 lbs. 6 oz.  He has been a very easy going baby, for which I am very thankful.  Here is a look at his sweetness:
Today I have a quick card to share.  I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch and lots of scraps from my scrap file. I based the colors off of the colors of the "Happy Birthday" paper and added some brown.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope to have some new projects to share soon, as time allows!

I Feel the Love: January

I have decided to have one of my goals for this year to be to participate in the "I Feel the Love" project each month.  Madison from "Funky Cards" finds a person or group of people to make cards for each month to help raise the spirits of those who are going through a difficult time or just need a little uplifting.

This month the project is twofold: the first part is to make Valentines for the children who were saved by the brave actions of Ms. Victoria Soto during the Newtown shootings, the second is to make sympathy cards for her family.

I decided to make a Valentine and combine it with the scrap{find} challenge at My Scraps and More  The challenge was to make a pingvina, a traditional Danish woven heart, and use it on a project.  You can check out the tutorial by clicking on the link above.  I cut the pieces using Sure Cuts A Lot and my Cricut.  I struggled a little to get the pieces woven together, but I am happy with how it turned out.  I used the heart as a pocket and then cut the girl using the "Playtime" cartridge.  She is holding a circular lollipop which I covered up with a heart I cut using the "Doodlecharms" cartridge.  For the inside, I used a matching cardstock sticker and stamped "U R loved" on it.

I hope you will take some time to check out the "I Feel the Love" project and consider joining in the fun!

Other Projects

I have one more Christmas gift to share. I made this tray for my brother-in-law. I made a similar one last year for my sister-in-law. I thought this would be a fun way for them to display photos of their nieces and nephew in their home. As you can see, I left an open spot for a picture of the baby when he or she is born. I also left the flag blank so I could add the baby's initial like I did for the other kids.  The kids also colored a small picture to be included in the frame.  I kept the design and embellishments pretty simple since this is going in a man's house.  I also stuck to brighter primary colors, using My Mind's Eye "On the Bright Side" and Bo Bunny "Learning Curve".

I just completed the page with the photo from this year for my Halloween mini album.  You can see the rest of what is completed in this album here. I am really enjoying this album because I can add to it each year and it doesn't take a ton of time.  I can grab a few scraps and put it together in a few minutes!

Como Zoo

I completed another layout!  It has been so fun to play with 12x12 pages again!  For this layout, I used the Fancy Pants Hopscotch collection.  I bought this about a month and a half ago when Scrapbooks Too was going out of business (they are reopening on Saturday though, yay!), but with all of my Christmas projects, it just sat on the shelf.  This collection has great colors, for this layout I focused on the blues and greens with a pop of orange.

This layout also worked for a couple of challenges.  The first was Jan./Feb. '13 Issue Challenge #1 on the Club CK board.  The challenge was to use polka dots.  This collection has several polka dot patterns, but I decided to use the green one for the title block on this page.

The second challenge was the 1/3/13 Scrap(play) challenge at My Scraps and More, which was to use die cuts.  I used several die cuts on this page.  The small flowers by the journaling and on the title block are die cuts, as is the "remember" flag in the bottom left.  I used my Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot to cut the green leaves in the bottom left.

I did quite a bit of distressing on this page which was a lot of fun.  I took my edge distresser around most of the papers and inked everything with brown ink.
